2020 Bodegas Portia Roble Ribera del Duero
We found this wine on a trip to Costco three days ago, and unfortunately the limited time discount expired on that day (Oct 1). But what an exciting find. A Ribera del Duero for under $10.
Could we be on a streak with these affordable wines from such a great area? We just reviewed this Ribera del Duero from Costco that was stellar for $12.99. Now here’s another one, normally $15.99 but we were able to score it for $9.99.
Remember sometimes the discounted prices stick and become the new standard price so we’ll have to see what happens with this one.
Huge 97 points for this wine from Decanter, and 90 from Suckling; both high in our opinion.
Getting into the wine, this one is big, full bodied and bold, holding nothing back. A little different than the last Ribera, which was a few years older, but just exuded elegance. That’s the older, more mature brother. This wine is the young rebellious troublemaker.
Dark purple in the glass; dark fruit and spice on the nose; good mix of red and dark fruit flavor; black cherry, blackberry and plum; toasty into the finish which is dry; chewy tannins.
We thought this was pretty good overall; definitely more of a new world approach to Tempranillo. Can’t beat the price.
