2020 Michele Chiarlo Le Orme Barbera d’Asti
We love wines from Piedmont, but you don’t always see them at Costco, and not always at such a compelling price as this Barbera from a big name producer.
So we were pleasantly surprised to see this bottle in stores for $13.59. Note the $.59 at the end. In case you missed our recent story on Costco wine shopping tips, that tag at the end of the price means this is a special price negotiated by Costco.
A quick online search shows this bottle hovering around the $17 range at places like Wine.com, so $13.59 is a nice discount on that. You’ll also note this wine received a huge 94 point score from Wine Enthusiast.
This one pours a dark ruby in the glass with ripe red fruit on the nose; it’s a nice medium in body with black cherry, raspberry and a touch of cranberry even; that little sourness is something we enjoy. Good acidity, dry finish.
This is a super versatile Italian red and a style we love pairing with food. And that could be anything from red meat dishes, meatballs or pizza. We wouldn’t hesitate to scoop a few of these up if this sounds up your alley at all.
