2021 Joseph Drouhin Saint-Veran Chardonnay
White Burgundy on a budget. That’s what you get with wines from Saint-Veran. And as an added bonus here we have a bottle from one of our favorite producers, Joseph Drouhin.
Saint-Veran is Burgundy’s southernmost appellation and slightly overlaps with the northern part of Beaujolais. Wines from this area are 100% Chardonnay, and as you see here, they are often a fraction of the cost you would expect from a Burgundian white.
In the glass this wine pours a medium gold; citrus on the nose with some honey and nuttiness that carries throughout; medium body, nice depth; predominantly flavors of citrus, lemon, grapefruit; nice acidity, minerality; lasting finish.
This was really a fun and enjoyable wine; perfect for all types of white wine fans and especially Chardonnay lovers who have yet to taste wines from this region.
