2021 Kirkland Signature Gigondas | CostcoWineBlog.com

A popular Kirkland bottle is back with the latest 2021 vintage. We have been enjoying this one the past few years, and it remains a killer buy on juice from a premier region you just can’t access for the same price anywhere else.

So the price staying at $13.99 was a huge bonus. A couple years ago it started creeping up, and then came back down, so seeing it level out here is perfect.

The varietal makeup is also the same as the last vintages, consisting of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre. Same winemaker too.

Historically, here’s where we’ve come in on this wine.

2015 87 Points

2016 88 Points

2017 86 Points

2018 88 Points

2019 86 Points

2020 90 Points

A nice bump in quality in 2020 and we’re feeling this new vintage holds pretty close to that. There’s a lot to like here for Rhone fans, and for those not familiar with Gigondas, this is a good leaping off point.

The wine is a medium ruby in the glass, earthy on the nose with nice black cherry, plum flavors; touch of mocha and black pepper into the finish which is good and lasting; nice acidity. The wine is a little tight right now so give it a decant or a little time in the glass to breath.

We’re coming in at 89 points this year, just one step below last year, and this remains a very solid offering that we look forward to tasting again. A good pick for holiday meals.
