2022 Kirkland Signature Malbec Mendoza
The new vintages of popular Kirkland bottles keep rolling in. Next up, we have the Kirkland Mendoza Malbec, which is usually a good pick on the affordable side of things.
And once again, the price remains $6.99 (same since the 2015 vintage). Can’t beat that. We also have the same winemaker, Sergio Case, from Broquel, who has made this wine for as long as we’ve been tasting it.
Below you can see our historical ratings for this bottle:
2015 86 points
2017 85 points
2018 87 points
2019 87 points
2020 88 points
2021 88 points
So mid to high 80s for most years, and this 2022 vintage will slide right in there at 87 points. Just a slight step down from last year.
The wine is a medium purple in the glass; a little muted on the nose, light berry, some oak aroma; it is medium in body with flavors of cherry, blackberry, notes of leather; a fair amount of oak in the finish that lingered a bit more than we would have liked.
The finish improved with air, so we’d recommend a decant. Not a bad buy at $6.99, but also not quite the 88 points we remember from this time last year.
