2017 Casa Santos Lima Reserva Red Blend

This is just the bottle we hope to find when cruising through the Costco aisles. Portugal is a mecca for huge value buys and this one fits the bill. So we scooped it up right away; probably should have bought more.

Only $12.99, but drinks like it cost twice that. 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, which is maybe a little generous, but a nod to the quality you get here. They also named it a “Cellar Selection.”

The blend is 40% Touriga Nacional, 25% Syrah, 20% Tinta Roriz, and 15% Alicante Bouschet.

It is a very nice wine indeed, and opens up beautifully after a decant. In the glass, the wine is a dark purple with aromas of red fruit, earth and leather; in the mouth the wine is full bodied, flavors of black cherry, blueberry with herbal notes and great acidity; ultra dry in the finish.

This is a fun wine, really enjoyable and versatile for many types of cuisine. While Wine Enthusiast names it a cellar selection, I’d agree it could go a few more years, but it’s also drinking real nice right now.

If you’re not on the Portugal wine band wagon, stop waiting. These are fantastic wines at very good prices, almost unmatched elsewhere in the wine world.
