2018 Ego Bodegas Infinito Monastrell
Alright, we are hitting a bunch of Spanish wine winners from Costco all right in a row. We had the Portia Ribera del Duero, the Vina Pomal Rioja Reserva (a CostcoWineBlog Top Pick), and the Condado de Oriza Ribera del Duero Reserva (also a Top Pick of our site).
And we’ve sung the praises for the value you can find in Spanish wine for years. Every bottle mentioned above was under $13. And here’s another one, albeit a tad more expensive at $15.99, and different in style, but delicious.
The Costco placard indicates this wine is a “red blend” but it is actually 100% Monastrell from Jumilla. The placard also proudly boasts the 93 points and Editor’s Choice distinction from Wine Enthusiast.
On the pour you can tell this is a going to be a big wine. It is a dark ruby in the glass with aromas of dark fruit, oak and plenty of spice. In the mouth, the wine is full bodied, packed with flavors of plum and blackberry; notes of vanilla and clove in the finish with some toasted oak.
Monastrell fans will lap this one up like crazy, as will fans of big California wines who want to try something spicy and earthy from another part of the wine world.
Great find. Our only complaint is the Costco price. You can buy this bottle at several online outlets for $17, so we’d like to see Costco bring in a little bigger discount. But regardless of that, it is still a nice one for the money.
