2021 Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur
Here’s the new Kirkland Bordeaux Superieur arriving in stores right on time. For a while it was a Jan – Feb wine, but lately it’s been hitting in December. That’s good news if you’re looking for an inexpensive red to stock up on for the holidays.
We instantly went to the price, $6.99 again, which is awesome. The price had risen a couple bucks a few years ago, but appears to have settled in that $7 sweet spot where we hope it stays.
Let’s take a peek at our past ratings for this bottle:
2015: 87 points
2016: 87 points
2018: 85 points
2019: 88 points
2020: 87 points
Pretty respectable across most of the vintages.
And for this 2021 bottle, we have the same varietal makeup as the past couple of years, consisting of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
Getting into the wine, it has a nice, aromatic nose that is earthy with some dark fruit; in the mouth flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum some black licorice; tight tannins, pretty good finish.
This remains a good basic Bordeaux, perfect as an everyday table wine and it won’t break the bank. We’ll keep our rating the same as the prior vintage at 87.
