2022 J de Villebois Touraine Sauvignon Blanc
This was one of the biggest no brainer wine picks of all time. A Sauvignon Blanc from France’s Touraine appellation for $12.99.
Touraine is in the Loire Valley of France, which fans of Loire will instantly think Sancerre when they think Sauvignon Blanc from the region. And as they should; we adore Sancerre.
But Sancerre, outside of the Kirkland bottling, can get pricey. Worth the price? Often yes, but if you can find something somewhat in the same ballpark for a few bucks less, it’s a score.
That’s what this bottle is. Very tasting juice, an excellent representation of Sauvignon Blanc, that is more than fair at this price. Retail is around $15-$16 so a nice Costco discount.
It may just be missing a bit of the body and depth of a good Sancerre. The wine is a pale yellow in the glass with aromas of citrus fruit; nice flavor of white peach, green apple and pear; mineral notes, crisp finish. A nice presentation that isn’t overbearing.
This is a perfect pick as the weather warms up; very food friendly, we love these kind of wines with white fish, sushi, ceviche, anything like that. But also tasty on its own with some good company.
Way to mix it up Costco with a little something different, that is really tasty at a great price.
