2019 Vincent & Gabriel Fournier Les Sizies Beaune 1er Cru
Burgundy time, and we found a new one that looks interesting. A Beaune 1er Cru at Costco for $42.99 and we scooped it up right away.
There’s not much information online about this bottle. Turns out, the Costco placard hit the nail right on the head saying “a little muted at first but opening w/ time.”
That was exactly our experience. Often times wines get better with air (or the more you drink) but this one really evolved into a good place with some time. So a 30+ minute decant is a must here.
Once it gets going, there’s a lot to like. Really pleasant nose of red berry fruit, wet soil and flowers, medium ruby in the glass, medium in body with good acidity; flavors of strawberry, raspberry, sour cherry; lasting finish.
This is a charmer all around and perfect to pair with almost any cuisine.
