Wine Reviews: Mini Round-Up for November 11, 2024
I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!
- 2014 Corte Fusia Orfano ‘Terre Rosse’ Brut Nature (Franciacorta): An exquisite showing, submitting its proof that Franciacorta is the bubbly region to beat right now. $NA A-
- 2021 La Porta di Vertine (Chianti Classico): Earthy, dark, tangy, and especially rich by CC standards. $NA B+
- 2019 Anne & Jean Francois Ganevat “Madelon” Rouge (France): Rarely are they this funky and yet still this damned good. $60 A-
- 2022 Aviana Cabernet Sauvignon (France): It’ll do the job when you want a simple red, but this one doesn’t fully live up to its potential or its artsy label. $18 B-
- 2022 Quinta da Fonte Souto Branco (Alentejo): A tropical, fragrant, perfumed vintage makes this one just as reliable as ever. $27 A-
- NV Racines Grand Reserve Sparkling Chardonnay (Sta Rita Hills): Laser-focused citrus aimed right at your tongue and your heart strings. $80 A-
- 2010 Irwin Family Vineyards Piedra Roja Block 22 Tempranillo (Sierra Foothills): Wow… this dynamo is still giving off Reserva Rioja vibes! $35 A-
- 2021 Merry Edwards Meredith Estate Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley): Immediately awesome but also sporting everything it needs for years of graceful aging. A powerhouse. $90 A
- 2021 Del Dotto Vineyards Caves Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley): A thoroughly thick, rich, hedonistic delight. Guilty pleasure for sure. $95 A-
- 2022 Kelley Fox Wines ‘Nerthus’ (Willamette Valley): Orange you glad that there are textured, refined orange wines like this one out there? $30 A-
